The recently concluded 65th edition of the former All Nigeria/ Mobil Athletics Championship, rechristened All Nigeria/Cross River Athletics championship was a carnival of some sort as it produced all the pomp and pageantry that accompanies an actual carnival and as well as the excitement expected of an elite championship of that magnitude.
The well organised three-day event which held at the U. J. Esuene Stadium,Calabar, featured Athletes from all over Nigeria who were joined by no fewer than 37 international Athletes of repute who arrived the country from their various bases around the world.
For the Tinapa Lakeseide Hotel, it was another unique opportunity to delight participating athletes, all of whom where accommodated at the world class 242 Room Hotel. Guests were treated to an array of culinary and mouth watering
dishes carefully chosen and served to ensure their performance was not in any way impaired. At the end of their pleasant stay, a cross section of
the athletes expressed their desire to return to Tinapa for private vacations.
It is believed that the organizers of the Championships, The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) used the event to select members of Team Nigeria who will represent the country at the forthcoming World Athletics Championship in
Daegu, South Korea in August and the All Africa Games in Mozambique in September, 2011.
